About Stephen Brackett

Stephen Malloy Brackett — aka Brer Rabbit — is a Denver-based artist, organizer, and educator who has spent twenty years asking what music can actually do. He co-founded the platinum-selling Flobots, co-founded Youth on Record, and serves as Executive Director of both ONE Denver (the city's Office of Nighttime Economy) and Foundation Music School in Fort Collins. He is a former Colorado Statewide Music Ambassador, a PBS producer and presenter, an adjunct professor at CSU, and the creator of The House Party — a platform for rebuilding the ecosystems that make politically grounded artists possible. He has always lived in Denver. That is not incidental.

Project list

Flobots

NoEnemies

Denver's hip-hop band with an agenda. Co-founded by Brackett (aka Brer Rabbit), the Flobots turned "Handlebars" into a global anthem and never left the neighborhood. Two decades of albums, activism, and showing up.

NoEnemies

NoEnemies

The music comes off the stage and into the streets. No Enemies transforms familiar songs into protest chants and collective rallying cries — turning audiences into participants and performances into organizing tools.

ONEDenver

House Party

Denver's nightlife has an advocate. As Executive Director, Brackett works to keep the city's after-dark culture vibrant, safe, and owned by the communities that built it — not just the ones who can afford to stay.

House Party

House Party

The music industry didn't kill protest music. It killed the ecosystem that made protest artists possible. The House Party is Stephen's answer: a training platform and grassroots touring circuit that rebuilds the house shows, community venues, and mutual support networks where politically grounded artists have always been made. Not a nostalgia project — a blueprint. It makes the industry optional.

Music Ecosystems

A Through-Line

Every role Stephen takes — ambassador, executive director, band co-founder, school director — is really the same job: tending the soil that artists grow in. He works at the level of policy, community, and practice to make sure Denver and Colorado remain places where musicians can develop, stay, and matter — not just pass through on the way to somewhere else.

Play it Forward

 Foundation Music School-PlayitForward program

Free, community-rooted music education for youth across Larimer County who'd otherwise be shut out. Camp intensives, school residencies, songwriting workshops — built around one rule: no auditions, only invitations. Because talent is everywhere. Opportunity isn't.
